Luwak, also known as Musang Luwak or Paradoxurus hermaphroditus, only consumes ripe fruits. The ripe red coffee berries are consumed and naturally fermented in the digestive tract. The undigested coffee which is covered with the husk are processed and called as Kopi Luwak. This coffee fame in Southeast Asia has been known for so long; then, it is widely famous for the gourmet coffee drinkers after the 1980’s publicity. Kopi Luwak has become one of the world's most expensive coffee and included in the most coveted and preferred coffee list by coffee enjoyers. The abroad price is about US 50 dollar per cup (approximately IDR 450.000,- with exchange rate of IDR 9.000,- per US dollar). The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) had discussed the Kopi Luwak fatwa, it has come with a conclusion that the coffee produced with the Luwak dropping is kosher consumed after going through the prior process of cleaning and washing.
